CVE Biogaz raises €70 million from BNP Paribas Asset Management
CVE Biogaz, a subsidiary of independent renewable energies producer CVE and a major player in organic matter recovery and methanization in France, has announced a €70 million fund-raising operation. This operation, combining shares and convertible bonds, benefits from a significant investment from the Low Carbon Transition Infrastructure Equity Fund of BNP Paribas Asset Management (BNPP AM). It will enable CVE Biogaz to accelerate its development and strengthen its position in the European methanization market.
Reinforcing financial strength and supporting growth
BNPP AM’s acquisition of a stake in CVE Biogaz, following that of Swen Capital Partners, which invested €40 million between 2021 and 2023, confirms investors’ confidence in the integrated business model of the group’s subsidiary, which operates across the entire value chain, from biowaste collection to biomethane production. This transaction marks an important milestone for CVE Biogaz, which retains operational control.
The funds raised will be used for :
- Develop and finance 60 methanization units to be built and operated by 2030 in France.
- Step up its biowaste collection and processing activities through its subsidiary Ecovalim.
- Develop services for the treatment and recovery of organic materials in France to supply its own methanization units and those of its partners.
- Promote the valorization of its complementary products to biomethane: biogenic CO2 and organic fertilizers
- Optimize the industrial synergies of its activities
- Strengthen its presence in Spain, a key market for expansion.
A strong signal for the methanization sector
Created in 2024, the Low Carbon Transition Infrastructure Equity Fund of BNPP AM’s Private Assets division is dedicated to financing low-carbon infrastructure projects in Europe. This investment underlines its ambition to support companies contributing to the energy transition.
The financing of these projects testifies to the attractiveness of the methanization sector for institutional investors, thanks to the growth prospects of the business and the industrial know-how of CVE’s teams.
Rodolphe Brumm, Head of Private Equity Infrastructure Investments at BNPP AM, comments: “We are proud to support CVE Biogaz in its ambition to become a key player in the energy transition in France and Europe. This 3rd investment fits perfectly with our fund’s strategy of investing in leading companies contributing to a low-carbon economy in Europe”.
“We are delighted to welcome BNPP AM to our capital, a leading player whose interest demonstrates the importance and potential of methanization. We are the only independent player to master the entire value chain, from biowaste management to the production of renewable gas and the return of organic matter to the soil, all without intermediation. CVE Biogaz aims to increase its green gas production 6-fold by 2030. We want to actively contribute to the ambitions of the French industry, which aims to increase the share of renewable, low-carbon gas to 20% of our national consumption by 2030, compared with 2% today, while at the same time working towards France’s energy sovereignty,” explains Hervé Lucas, co-president of CVE.
