Jonathan Jay appointed General Manager of CVE España
CVE, a French independent producer of renewable energies, multi-country and multi-energy (650 MW of photovoltaic capacity in operation and under construction in 5 countries), appoints Jonathan Jay as Managing Director of CVE España.
His mission will be to structure the group’s new subsidiary, created in early 2023, with a focus on solar projects with high local acceptability. CVE is thus pursuing its international development in countries that will enable it to deploy its vision as a producer of decentralized energy in short circuits.
With 10 years’ experience in the solar industry in Chile and Europe, Jonathan Jay, an engineering graduate of INP Grenoble and holder of a Master’s degree in Energy Finance Carbon from Dauphine, will bring his expertise of the Spanish renewable energy market and solar project development. Based in Madrid since 2019, Jonathan Jay was in charge of PPA (Power Purchase Agreements) for Europe at Sonnedix. In this role, he structured and negotiated long-term solar power sales contracts (total of 500 MW of finalized transactions) with key players in the sector, as well as electro-intensive manufacturers. Previously, Jonathan worked in Chile for 5 years for Total Energies, as head of PPA, and Sonnedix, where he was in charge of business development.
Jonathan Jay’s mission will be to develop and structure the activities of CVE’s subsidiary in Spain, a market with strong solar potential. In line with its strategy of producing decentralized renewable energies and selling them through short circuits, CVE is focusing on the segment of grid-connected solar projects with high local acceptability, and is also interested in the self-consumption market. In Spain, these 5 MW projects are easier to implement than utility-scale projects, thanks to greater local acceptability, a favorable regulatory framework for environmental authorizations and simplified connection procedures.
The Spanish solar market also stands out for its innovative energy recovery features, with the possibility of developing models combining PPA and market sales. The strategic PPA segment is mature and dynamic, fueled by favorable market and financing conditions.
“My associates and I are delighted to welcome Jonathan to CVE. His expertise and experience in PPA structuring and project development will be invaluable in deploying our subsidiary’s strategy in Spain”, explains Pierre de Froidefond, co-founder and co-Chairman of CVE.
In 2023, CVE España acquired a portfolio of projects with a capacity of 30 MWp in the Aragon region, which will be financed and launched into construction within the year. In addition, CVE has almost 50 MWp of projects under development that will start construction in 2024 and 2025, with the aim of reaching an operational capacity of at least 200 MWp within 5 years.
